D2 (U24): Explain the importance of etiquette when working on a media production

The importance of etiquette when working on a media production

Etiquette is the customary code of polite behaviour in society or among members of a particular profession. This is so important when working on a media production as it enables you to treat others in the same way you wish to be treated as well as etiquette creating a nice and enjoyable atmosphere to work in.

As Product Managers are responsible for the life cycle of the product, a positive etiquette is key as it reflects on the industry as a whole. For example, the duty of a Product Manager is to ensure everyone is working efficiently so that the whole production is up to date and running smoothly. With this responsibility comes a level of respect, all colleges will look up to the Product Manager and mirror the skills and etiquette that they acquire. Being kind and positive will ultimately reflect on the production as whole due to the hard work will be meaningful and positive. Where as, if the Product Manager lacked a proper etiquette then that atmosphere may bounce onto the workers and reflect in the word that they create, especially due to the high positioned job, of a Product Manager ,which is respected by other colleges.

Politeness is also a key for Product Managers as it enables respect and a positive persona when interacting with colleges and meeting new people. For example, Product Managers often need to attend conferences and meetings, and if others are presented with an impolite attitude then they may not share ideas and think highly of the company. Additionally politeness is important between colleges as everyone's role is significant and if one person is impolite then that negativing may reflect on all the work produced, especially as your the Product Manager and colleges may look up to you for help.

One key element of etiquette for a Product Manager is being humble. Being humble is so important in life, and especially in such a high positioned job role. All your colleagues around you may show you more respect and acceptance if you are humble and modest. In a managerial position this is key as you are in a position of hierarchy where others around you will look up to you and rely on you to show the correct path to follow, this is why being humble is a key attitude for a Product Manager as they are the life cycle of the product and the back bone of whats going on.

Although a Product Manager is higher on the hierarchy than other jobs in this industry, it is important that there is the same level of respect for everyone. Etiquette is so key for gaining politeness and respect, and in order for everyone is work well together, there must be an equal respect for everyone, regardless of their job's position on the hierarchy. For example, those whose jobs are considered "lower", such as an intern, should still be given the same respect as someone who is "higher", such as an Art director. This all comes down to the work. If everyone is treated equally with politeness, positivity and respect then the overall out come of the work is going to be exceptional. In this industry every single role plays a significant part, without one then the rest of the production can crash down, therefore it is so important that everyone has adequate skills and a positive etiquette.
